Markets Grind Higher in a Shortened Week

Closed last Friday for Juneteenth, the S&P 500 still gained 0.9% over the four-day week, its eleventh winning week in twelve, closing at 7,500.58. The Nasdaq Composite led at +2.4% (26,517.93) on strength in semiconductors, helped by a jump in Intel after President Trump announced it would produce chips for Apple. The Dow added 0.7% (51,564.70) and notched a record high midweek, while the VIX held in the mid-16s. Year to date, the S&P 500 is up roughly 9.6%, the Nasdaq about 14.1%, and the Dow near 7.3%.
